Connect mechanical gauge to the quick-disconnect fuel rail fitting using an OEM banjo or T-adapter.

Measure across injector 2-pin harness socket with ignition OFF. Internal coil resistance increases by ~0.4% per °C rise above 20°C (68°F). Replace injector if resistance reads open (> 100 kΩ) or shorted (< 2 Ω).

Engine Pre-Flight Conditioning

Check and adjust valve clearances to spec before attempting sync. Ensure air filter is clean, spark plugs are fresh, and engine is fully warmed to operating temperature (80°C–90°C).

Manometer Connection & Damping

Connect 4-column liquid or digital manometer hoses to Vacuum take-off nipples on intake spigots under rubber heat shields. Adjust in-line hose restrictor valves to dampen rapid intake pulsation until fluid columns stabilize.

Balance Screw Calibration

With engine idling at 1,250 - 1,350 RPM, identify Cylinder #1 (Master Reference). Adjust Center balance screw (pairs 1-2 to 3-4), then #2 and #4 individual sync screws until all cylinder columns are within 10 mmHg (1.33 kPa) of the master reference.

Throttle Blip & Locknut Verification

Blip throttle to 3,000 RPM 2–3 times and verify columns return evenly to idle balance. Tighten any balance screw locknuts securely, re-install rubber vacuum sealing caps, and verify idle speed.

Defect Description

YAMAHA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 THROUGH 2010 YZF-R6 MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 2005 THROUGH MARCH 2010. THE MOTORCYCLE'S FRONT SIDE REFLECTOR WAS NOT PLACED AT THE PROPER HEIGHT WHICH FAILS TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT."

Safety Hazard / Consequence

VISIBILITY OF THE MOTORCYCLE WILL BE DECREASED, POSSIBLY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Factory Remedy & Repair Action

YAMAHA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE MOTORCYCLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 12, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926.
