Defect Description

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE SPRING RETAINING PIN ON THE FRAME MAY NOT HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY WELDED IN PLACE AND COULD FALL OUT, ALLOWING THE SIDESTAND TO DROP INTO THE "PARKING" POSITION.

Safety Hazard / Consequence

IF THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, A CRASH COULD OCCUR.

Factory Remedy & Repair Action

KAWASAKI WILL REPURCHASE THESE MOTORCYCLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 1, 2007. ALL DEALERS/OWNERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED.

Critical Safety Recall Countermeasure

CRITICAL WORKSHOP PROCEDURE:

CRITICAL RECALL COUNTERMEASURE (Recall 09V-062 / Bulletin MC09-03). Heavy suspension movement and engine vibration caused the main harness to chafe against the frame, short-circuiting electrical power and stalling the engine. Install heavy-duty spiral protective wrap and secure with isolated cable straps.
